Sunergy has developed a 10 and 30Ah Nickel-Zinc (NiZn) battery technology, able to cycle 2000 times at 100 % DOD (depth of discharge) under a c-rate of 1. The industrial manufacturing process has started in China towards small mobility applications. The LOLABAT Project aims at adapting this battery to stationary applications, with a 4000-cycle goal (at 80 % DOD), and to keep it under 0,05€/kWh. Participants’ tasks are centered around : - Modifying the chemical formulas for electrodes, electrolyte and separator, and optimizing the electrodes manufacturing process. - Increasing the battery capacity, from 10 to 100Ah, and their architecture. - Studying and manufacturing a dedicated Battery Management System (BMS), suited for the stationary applications. - Studying and evaluating recycling processes for the end of life management, doing a Life-Cycle Analysis and a Life-Cycle Cost Analysis. Preparing the future manufacturing in Europe with a market analysis and business plan. - Manufacturing prototypes ranging from 2.5 to 10kWh, and testing them in several real-life stationary applications. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 963576.
